Sayana Press is a 3-monthly (13-week), progestin-only, injectable contraceptive that is over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy. It is injected subcutaneously into the abdomen or thigh, allowing for a, discreet and convenient, method

Key Details
How it Works: Contains 104 mg of medroxyprogesterone acetate, which suppresses ovulation and thickens cervical mucus.
Duration: Lasts 13 weeks; should be administered every 13 weeks (
7 days) to maintain effectiveness.
Administration: It is a subcutaneous injection, which is shallower than traditional intramuscular injections.
Self-Injection: It is approved for self-injection, allowing for increased privacy and reduced clinic visits.
Side Effects: Potential for irregular, lighter, or no periods. It may lead to decreased bone mineral density in some users, which usually recovers after stopping, and can delay the return of fertility by up to one year.
Protection: It does not protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

How to Use (Self-Injection)
Prep: Wash hands, remove the device, and shake it vigorously for 30 seconds.
Activate: Push the cap and port together to break the seal.
Inject: Remove the cap, pinch 1.5 inches of skin (abdomen or thigh) to form a “tent,” and insert the needle straight in.
Finish: Squeeze the reservoir slowly for 5–7 seconds, remove the needle, and dispose of it in a puncture-proof container.
Important Considerations
Timing: The first injection should ideally be administered within the first 5 days of the menstrual cycle.
Re-injection: If a dose is missed, it can be given up to 4 weeks late, but the risk of pregnancy increases.
